This means they will no longer receive software updates and will lose Nest and Google Home app compatibility. While users will still be able to manually adjust the temperature and schedules on the thermostat itself, they will lose the ability to control them remotely or through Google Assistant.
Loss of Connectivity:
Starting October 25, 2025, the first and second generation Nest Learning Thermostats will no longer connect to or be usable within the Nest app or Google Home app.
End of Remote Control:
Users will lose the ability to control their thermostat remotely from their phone or through Google Assistant.
Scheduled Changes:
Existing schedules will continue to function, but users will need to adjust them directly on the thermostat itself, as they won’t be able to modify them remotely.
No More Home/Away Assist:
The Home/Away assist feature, which automatically adjusts the temperature based on your presence, will stop working.
Focus on Current and Future Products:
Google is phasing out support for these older models to focus on the more recent Nest Learning Thermostats and future smart home products.
For both options you will get installation instructions via the app once you’ve purchased and registered the devices.
